Les Bourgs Hospice is aiming to attract 600 cyclists to its annual Rock to Rocque cycle ride on 31st May as the charity celebrates its 35th anniversary.
The event, one of the hospice's longest-standing fundraisers, will mark the start of a new three-year sponsorship partnership with Zedra. The company's support is intended to ensure the continued success of the community fundraiser.
Rock to Rocque plays a vital role in helping to meet the £2.8 million annual cost of running the hospice — around £8,000 every day — funding specialist palliative care, bereavement support and other essential services for islanders. Last year, 435 cyclists registered for the event.
Elaine Kennedy, managing director of Zedra Guernsey, said: "We are thrilled to sponsor the Rock to Rocque and support Les Bourgs and their 35th year anniversary. The charity is so important to the Guernsey community, and we are happy to be a part of the fundraising helping Les Bourgs achieve their goals."
The fully marshalled round-island route begins at the top of Val des Terres at 9am, with Wheels and Co on hand to offer last-minute bike checks. Cyclists follow the route through St Martin's and the Forest before heading out to Rocquaine and along the West Coast, finishing at North Beach.
A shorter option starts at 11am from Grandes Rocques, making the event accessible to riders of all ages and abilities. Rock to Rocque is not a race — participants are simply encouraged to reach the finish at North Beach by 2pm to receive their medal.
The day also marks the finale of Ian Brown's 30/30 Cycle Challenge, whose riders traditionally join the route in their distinctive jerseys, creating a colourful wave of cyclists along the seafront.
Sign-ups will be available on the day, but registration online through the Les Bourgs Hospice website is quick and easy and helps with the organisation of the event.
Entry costs £15 for adults, £5 for under-18s, or £30 for a family. More information and registration details can be found at www.lesbourgshospice.org.gg, or by contacting [email protected] or 251111.
