Two local charities have collaborated to transform the grounds of Andrew Mitchell House at Les Bourgs Hospice, creating a vibrant and tranquil space for patients, families and staff.

Grow has been commissioned to supply and plant a carefully selected range of perennials and pollinator-friendly plants as part of the rejuvenation project.

The initiative was made possible after Les Bourgs Hospice fundraiser Liz Stonebridge successfully secured funding through the Coop Community Fund, with the condition that plants should be sourced from Grow and installed by its horticultural team.

The new planting scheme has been designed to provide year-round colour, texture and seasonal interest whilst encouraging bees, butterflies and other pollinators into the area. The revitalised borders will create an attractive and peaceful environment that changes throughout the seasons.

Stuart Smale, Horticultural Manager at Grow, said: "When we were planning the area, we were keen to create borders that would deliver impact throughout the seasons.

"Our team has really got stuck in and enjoyed positioning the plants for maximum effect before planting them into the prepared beds. It's rewarding to be part of a project that will bring enjoyment to residents and visitors while also supporting local wildlife."

Liz Stonebridge, Fundraising Administrator at Les Bourgs Hospice, explained the importance of the project.

"The gardens at Andrew Mitchell House play such an important role in providing a calm and tranquil space for our patients and their families.

"Over time they have become well established but thanks to support from the Coop Community Fund we have been able to rejuvenate areas by our patient rooms to add more pollinating flowers and beautiful borders of colour."

Ms Stonebridge continued: "Working with GROW was an important aspect of the project for us and they have been exceptional with their knowledge, quality of plants and the enthusiasm of the crew.

"Our aim is to partner with other charities where we can and we cannot wait to work with the Grow team again in the future."
