Guernsey representatives celebrate DofE Award 70th anniversary at Buckingham Palace

Ten representatives from Guernsey attended Buckingham Palace for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold Award Ceremony and 70th anniversary celebrations.
The delegation included coordinators, trainers and long-standing champions of the scheme from across Guernsey's education sector.
Tom Humpage, Duke of Edinburgh's Award Manager, said: "It was an absolute privilege to attend the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Being part of the 70th anniversary celebrations made it even more special, and it was inspiring to stand alongside so many dedicated colleagues and champions of the Award.
"I think it is important to recognise the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes that allows us to offer these life-changing opportunities to all off our Guernsey DofE participants at every level of the award."
Gary Dovey, DofE Expedition Leader Trainer and DofE Coordinator for Le Murier School, was among those invited, alongside Amber Stables, DofE Coordinator for Alternative Provision/Thrive, and Rebecca Gallienne, DofE Coordinator for Le Murier School.
Other representatives included Ashly Ward, DofE Coordinator for The Sixth Form Centre, Tom Humpage, DofE Award Manager, David Moss, DofE Coordinator for Les Beaucamps High School, and Sacha Jones, previously DofE Coordinator for The Youth Commission. Ella Mauger, DofE Coordinator for Les Varendes High School, Emma Connell, DofE Award Verifier and Trustee of Friend of DofE Charity, and Jess Ingles, DofE Coordinator for St Sampsons High School, completed the party.
The ceremony featured speeches from guest speakers including chef Angela Hartnett OBE, television personality Tasha Ghouri and adventurer Ash Dykes. Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, delivered a presentation, and racing driver Billy Monger made a surprise appearance.
The event recognised the achievements of Gold Award participants whilst celebrating the dedication of staff and volunteers who have supported the Award programme over many years.
The ceremony forms part of year-long celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which was established in 1956 and has seen millions of people take part in the challenge.
