The Scrutiny Management Committee will hold a public hearing with the Policy & Resources Committee to examine tax reform proposals on Monday 6th July 2026.

The hearing will take place at the Castel Douzaine Room between 10:00 and 12:00, with the SMC panel comprising Deputy Andy Sloan as chair, Deputy Liam McKenna and Deputy Haley Camp.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the formal parliamentary proceeding in an observational capacity, though they will not be able to ask questions or make comments during the session. The hearing will also be live streamed on YouTube.

The scrutiny follows the introduction of a significant tax reform package by the Policy & Resources Committee, which is scheduled for debate by the States despite having been available for public review for only a relatively short period.

Deputy Andy Sloan, President of the Scrutiny Management Committee, said: "The Policy & Resources Committee has brought forward a significant package of tax reform proposals which, despite their importance, have only been available for a relatively short period before they are due to be debated by the States."

He added: "The Scrutiny Management Committee considered it important, and part of its public duty, to hold a public hearing so that these proposals can be examined openly before the debate. We have also received requests from members of the public asking the Committee to scrutinise the proposals, reflecting the level of public interest in the issues involved."

Deputy Sloan explained that the hearing would serve multiple purposes, stating: "The hearing will provide an opportunity to explore the evidence underpinning the proposals, test the assumptions that have been made and help both Deputies and the wider public better understand the issues before the Assembly is asked to make its decision."
