A free website that asks three quick questions, about what you enjoy, how active you’d like to be and where on the island you are, then suggests local clubs, groups and volunteering to match is being tested before it’s entered into this year’s G-Prize.

Answer three quick questions, about what you enjoy, how active you’d like to be and where on the island you are, and Join In Guernsey will suggest local clubs, groups and volunteering that might suit you.

The free website, built by The Quarry in partnership with Jon Hickman, brings together more than 250 activities across Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, from walking groups and choirs to lunch clubs, craft circles and sports clubs. It’s being tested this before it’s entered into the G-Prize 2026.

There’s a great deal going on in the island, but details spread across dozens of websites, directories and noticeboards soon go out of date, and most groups are run by volunteers with little time to keep every page current.

When The Quarry asked organisers to check what was already published about them, around half of the activities they replied about had changed in some way, whether a new time, a different venue, a new contact or a price.

So Join In Guernsey goes back to the people who run each group and asks them to confirm their details. So far, 59 have done so, and their listings are marked as confirmed by the organiser, so people can turn up knowing the information is right.

The site’s suggestions start with a top pick and then everything else that fits, and each listing sets out when and where an activity happens, what it costs, how to join and who to ask for.

Where organisers have told us, it also shows whether there’s a seated option, step-free access, an accessible toilet or a nearby bus route.

It’s designed for people looking for something for themselves, and also for those helping someone else. Family members, carers, GPs and social prescribers can build a list of suitable activities and print it out, so the person they’re helping has the times, places and phone numbers on paper.

“There’s so much going on in Guernsey, but it’s hard to find, and harder still to know whether what you’ve found is still right,” said Nick Mann, co-founder of The Quarry.

“We wanted to make it easy for people to find something that suits them, and to be confident it’ll be there when they turn up.”

Join In Guernsey is The Quarry’s entry to the G-Prize 2026, a competition run by Innovate Guernsey that challenges islanders to build working tools, using AI, to tackle real Guernsey problems.

It answers the competition’s Active Ageing challenge: matching islanders with activities and social groups that help them stay active, connected and independent.

Entries close on Sunday 8 November.

Organisers who have seen it so far have been positive. One described it as “clear, simple and easy to find your way around”, and another as “absolutely wonderful”.

The site is free to use, with no accounts, logins or advertising.

As a working prototype it will have rough edges, and The Quarry is asking islanders to try it this week and say what they think, using the short feedback form linked from every page.

Organisers who spot their group, or whose group is missing, can confirm or correct their details by emailing [email protected], or add a new activity using the form on the site.
