The Household Green Waste site at Mont Cuet will move to its winter opening hours from Monday 16 November, remaining on the reduced schedule until 29 March 2027.

During the winter period, the site will be open on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm, and closed on all other days.

Guernsey Waste's Operations Manager, Rachel Lowe, said the switch to winter hours has been introduced slightly later this year following a review of site usage.

"Last year we extended the summer schedule for an additional two weeks due to high demand the previous year and have adopted the same approach this year," she said.

"We review traffic volumes at the end of each season and make adjustments where needed to ensure we're providing the best possible service for islanders."

The site accepts all garden clippings and green waste, including grass, leaves, branches and hedge trimmings. However, green waste that has been treated with herbicides and pesticides is not accepted and should be disposed of as general black bag waste.

Accepted green waste is turned into good quality, stable and nutrient-rich soil improving compost which is free to collect from Longue Hougue.

Plant pots, stones, rocks, soil and noxious weeds such as ragwort should be excluded from green waste brought to the site. Japanese knotweed is also not accepted, but other invasive species such as sour fig can be composted and brought to the Household Green Waste site. A dedicated skip is available on site for bamboo and pampas grass.

The facility is strictly for household green waste only. All other household waste and recycling should be taken to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Longue Hougue.
