A local cycling charity has received a new trailer to help transport adapted bikes to more venues, following a donation from Only Fools and Donkeys at a Parkinson's Awareness Day event this weekend.

The trailer will enable Wheels for You to expand its outreach work by making it easier to transport up to four adapted bicycles to different locations across the community.

Wheels for You, which has been running for approximately 18 months, provides cycling opportunities for people who cannot use traditional two-wheeled bikes.

The charity operates with three adapted bikes donated by Only Fools and Donkeys, each designed to cater for different needs and enable a wide range of individuals to experience cycling.

"Transporting our tricycles to various events or venues has so far been very time consuming. The new trailer can fit up to four bikes at a time, depending which ones we take, which makes a huge difference," said Ian Brown, co-founder of Wheels for You.

The trailer has been sponsored by Butterfield, whose managing director attended the Parkinson's Awareness Day launch event.

"The ethos behind both the Wheels for You initiative and the success of the adapted bikes Only Fools Donkeys has donated to the charity has resonated strongly with us.

"Accessibility and inclusivity is hugely important and having the opportunity to watch the enjoyment those attending today have gained from trying out the bikes, and the variety of disabilities and conditions that can be accommodated has been wonderful," said Richard Saunders, Managing Director of Butterfield.

Brown explained that whilst the charity runs weekly sessions, the improved transport capability will allow them to attend more events and carry out additional outreach work with charities, community groups and residential homes.

"Wheels For You has been running for about 18 months now but there are still plenty of people who have not had the opportunity to try the bikes. Having the trailer gives us the opportunity to not only run our weekly sessions but attend events like today's Parkinsons Awareness Day and carry out more outreach work with charities, community groups and residential homes," Brown said.

Saunders added: "We hope the trailer will enable Wheels For You to continue to expand the number of people this fantastic initiative can reach."

Only Fools and Donkeys has been described as a long-term supporter of the Wheels for You initiative, having previously purchased all three of the charity's adapted bikes.
