Art for Guernsey has launched an open call for artists to submit works for a new group exhibition celebrating the island's iconic trees, with the show set to run from November 2026.

The exhibition will showcase Guernsey's trees as living landmarks that shape the island's landscape and identity, from windswept coastal survivors to cherished specimens in lanes, parks and gardens.

Artists working in any medium are invited to submit pieces that respond to individual trees, groups of trees, woodland spaces or broader themes including memory, ecology, heritage, climate and belonging. Accepted mediums include painting, drawing, print, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textile, mixed media and installation.

Submissions must be delivered to the Art for Guernsey Gallery by midday on Friday 23rd October in a format ready to be hung. The organisation can provide framing recommendations for artists who require support.

There is a £10 entry fee per artwork, which will support the gallery's community and education projects. All selected artworks will be presented for sale unless otherwise agreed, with terms of sale and commission details available on request.

The exhibition has secured backing from professional services firm Praxis, which employs around 400 staff globally and is one of the largest independent financial services groups headquartered in the Channel Islands.

Ciaran O'Neill, managing director of Praxis in Guernsey, said: "Guernsey's iconic trees provide a sense of place, history and continuity for generations. We're delighted to support this exhibition, which not only showcases the work of talented artists but also celebrates an important part of Guernsey's natural heritage. As a business with deep roots in the island, supporting our community and local culture is very important to us."

David Ummels, founder and chairman of Art for Guernsey, said: "Over the last 10 years we have tirelessly celebrated the landscapes and seascapes of Guernsey, and the very special sources of inspiration that the island never fails to provide. For a few years we have been thinking about shining a light on Guernsey's trees. We don't have that many, but some of those we have are truly magnificent. As we have observed how dear they are to islanders, we felt that it would be a good subject for a show, and we are delighted to bring that to fruition in November."

Art for Guernsey is a charitable initiative that aims to bring communities together through art, provide educational opportunities and create an artistic legacy for the island. The organisation focuses on making high-quality art accessible for free and creating opportunities within the art, educational and charitable sectors.
