A charity music festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an island-wide art trail featuring 25 alien sculptures made from recycled materials.
The Vale Earth Fair has launched the Alien Trail to mark half a century of promoting sustainability, supporting local artists, and raising funds for humanitarian causes. Each sculpture represents a different local charity, offering organisations an opportunity to raise awareness and funds alongside the festival's three main beneficiaries: Safer, Linda Norgrove Foundation, and Burma Campaign UK.
All 25 aliens have been created by local artists using repurposed, recycled, or environmentally friendly materials, with no base design provided to encourage creative freedom. The sculptures are positioned at various locations around the island, each telling a unique story about the charity it represents.
Island residents can participate in multiple ways. A photo competition invites participants to take pictures with all 25 aliens and share them on social media, tagging @ValeEarthFair.
Local businesses including Sazon, Loaded Food Truck, Made by Fairies, and China Red have donated prizes worth up to £55. One entry will be selected each week, with the first draw taking place on Friday 25 September. Early entries will be included in multiple draws, increasing their chances of winning.
Visitors to the trail can vote for their favourite alien by donating £1 via QR codes displayed on trail posters, with the chosen alien referenced in the payment notes. Half of each donation will support the charity represented by that alien, whilst the remaining 50 per cent will go to the Vale Earth Fair.
The sculptures will also be sold through a silent auction, with bids accepted via email to [email protected] until 12 noon on 16 October. Proceeds from winning bids will be split equally between the relevant charity and the festival.
Organisers said they were pleased to extend support to more local organisations in this landmark year. They also hope the trail will prolong summer activities and encourage exploration of different locations across the island.
