Average rental prices approaching £8,400 a year more than they were five years ago
  • The average monthly rental price for Local Market properties was £2,075, up 0.3% from the previous quarter and 5.3% compared to Q2 2024.
  • This is nearly £700 a month more than five years ago
  • The mix adjusted average purchase price for Local Market properties is £596,573, reflecting a 2.8% increase from the previous quarter.
  • There were 195 Local Market transactions in Q2 2025, an increase of 29 from Q1 2025 and 50 from Q2 2024.
  • The average time to sell a Local Market property rose to 259 days in Q2 2025 from 202 days in Q2 2024.
Education, Sport and Culture advances plans to establish education governance boards
  • Education, Sport and Culture is progressing towards the establishment of independent education governance boards.
  • Legislation to support the reform will be considered by the States in September.
  • Recruitment for Chairs of the governance boards is underway.
  • A second recruitment phase for additional board members is planned.
  • The Committee aims to strengthen connections between schools and local Douzaines
Bowel Cancer Guernsey funds outdoor gym equipment at Delancey Park
  • Bowel Cancer Guernsey has funded new outdoor gym equipment at Delancey Park.
  • The initiative aims to encourage community fitness and awareness of bowel cancer prevention.
  • The equipment was installed at the end of July.
  • It is located near the playground to serve people of all ages.
  • The charity previously funded similar outdoor fitness equipment at Saumarez Park in 2016.
States’ housing tenants will no longer have to pay for their carpets when they move in
  • New tenants will no longer need to provide their own floor coverings.
  • The initiative results from collaboration between the Committee for Employment & Social Security and the Committee for Housing.
  • The procurement of floor coverings from potential suppliers is underway.
  • Implementation is anticipated early next year, subject to supplier response.
  • The policy aims to align States housing practices with those of private rental and Guernsey Housing Association tenants.
Inclusive 6-a-side football team launching in Guernsey
  • Local LGBTQ+ charity Liberate is starting an inclusive football team.
  • Open-to-all, initial sessions begin on 14 August at La Mare playing fields.
  • The programme aims to provide a welcoming place for individuals of all identities.
  • Sessions will occur weekly following the initial kickabout with plans to join a league.
  • OUT Active events are sponsored by the Co-Op and JT, with funding from the Saffery Rotary Walk 2025.

  • Bailiwick Social Prescribing is hosting a community art exhibition in August.
  • The exhibition is at the George Crossan Gallery.
  • Showcases artwork produced by participants from weekly art classes.
  • Art sessions aim to promote creativity and build social connections.
  • Free admission; open daily to 29 August.
Plans unveiled for emergency sleeping pods in Vale Douzaine car park
  • Caritas Guernsey has submitted a planning application for two emergency sleeping pods.
  • The pods aim to address homelessness and extreme housing insecurity in Guernsey.
  • Designed by Amazing Grace Spaces, the pods are self-contained and off-grid.
  • Caritas plans to support pod users in finding long-term accommodation.
  • The Vale Douzaine has endorsed the initiative, stating it addresses local homelessness effectively.
