**From the editor's desk**

This week we've launched a series that will celebrate and amplify the charity work that is transforming lives in our community. It was fantastic to invite [Grow](https://grow.gg/?ref=thequarry.media) in to record an episode for the [Dig This Podcast](https://www.thequarry.media/watch-orkney-2025-two-athletes-two-different-paths-both-relishing-the-opportunity-to-compete-at-the-island-games/), but even more enlightening to pop along to their premises a few days later to see it all with my own eyes.

To say the site has been transformed since my last visit is an understatement. The produce and plants all look incredible, the cafe was busy, while the meeting room was hosting a packed talk for the third sector on social capital (more about which is below). But what struck me the most was the atmosphere around the site, it just all felt so welcoming. Please pop down and find out for yourselves.

Our [Dig Deeper](https://www.thequarry.media/information-overload/) investigation looks in-depth at the use of smartphones by children (and adults). Around the globe action is being taken, whether that is mandating bans, school policies limiting their use, moves for better enforcement of age verification or social media app caps. In Guernsey, hundreds of people are linked to a new campaign for a smartphone free childhood, while schools are helping parents navigate what to do and the options available.

As always, if you like what we’re doing and [setting out to achieve](https://www.thequarry.media/a-message-from-us/) with The Quarry, please spread the word among your friends, family and colleagues. We want to make this a real community effort and can only do that with your help!

Nick
