**From the editor's desk**

One of the first events I went to after we launched The Quarry was the Innovation Summit staged by The Digital Greenhouse.

All cards on the table, we're based in the DG, we've been lucky enough to attend some of their start-up programmes as The Quarry was developed, frankly I like their mission of driving entrepreneurship in the island because it's so vital for the health of our economy.

It was at that summit that the idea to dig into the exciting opportunities presented by growing the digital sector really percolated. Our economy has been stagnant, living standards aren't improving, but we can combat that and in a way that maximises our strength, skilled islanders. We need to change, we're capable of that, and what it could mean to the health of this island is immense. If you're a member you would have already [read the piece](https://www.thequarry.media/a-huge-digital-opportunity-that-could-add-150m-to-the-economy-and-retain-growth-can-guernsey-grab-it/), if not, please consider becoming a paid subscriber or member to do so!

Elsewhere, speaking to people out and about this week ( it's what journalists used to do to stay in touch with what's happening in the island rather than looking at emails...), there's a real sense of a fresh start with this new States. You can see who has what seat while attempting to remember their names using our [flipcards](https://www.thequarry.media/who-will-do-what-in-the-new-states/), I thought it would be more engaging than a list, I slightly regretted that decision after many hours of trying to make it work properly.

And finally, for the [Dig This Podcast](https://www.thequarry.media/watch-orkney-2025-two-athletes-two-different-paths-both-relishing-the-opportunity-to-compete-at-the-island-games/), I've been talking athletics ahead of the Orkney Island Games. It's well worth a listen, there's plenty of energy and some solid lessons to be taken even if you aren't an athlete.

As always, if you like what we’re doing and [setting out to achieve](https://www.thequarry.media/a-message-from-us/) with The Quarry, please spread the word among your friends, family and colleagues. We want to make this a real community effort and can only do that with your help!

Nick
