OneCoin: Cryptoqueen’s millions seized in Guernsey ready to compensate fraud victims
  • A court in Guernsey has ordered the seizure of £8.5m. linked to Cryptoqueen Dr Ruja Iganatova that was sat in an island bank account.
  • It is a key step in the process of compensating victims of the OneCoin scandal,  who lost more than £3.2bn in one of the biggest frauds in history.
  • Iganatova was the beneficial owner of two property companies set up in Guernsey to buy a London penthouse and flat.
  • German prosecutors in Bielefeld have been working with Guernsey authorities over returning the proceeds of the sale of the London properties. 
Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition to open at Guernsey Museum
  • The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition will open at Guernsey Museum on 30 January.
  • This year marks the exhibition's sixty-first iteration, showcasing exceptional nature photography.
  • Over 60,000 images were submitted, highlighting the appeal of the event.
  • The exhibition aims to inspire advocacy for the natural world.
  • The event runs from 30 January to 13 April.
Home Affairs removes Deputy Curgenven from police complaints review group
  • Deputy Rob Curgenven has been removed from the political group reviewing the police complaints regime.
  • Home Affairs reached the decision unanimously.
  • The group was established to gather diverse perspectives on police complaints, although it has no formal powers.
  • Curgenven breached agreed confidentiality terms by commenting on live police matters, the committee says. He denies this.
Maintaining mobility, maintaining independence - the new group exercise programme for over 65s
  • New free group exercise programme for people aged 65 and over begins in February.
  • It combines exercise, education and social activities designed for older adults starting to show mobility decline.
  • It is designed to help people build physical activity into their lives and maintain the habit.
  • Evidence from four-and-a-half year study shows how effective the programme is.
La Houguette ‘School Street’ to become a permanent initiative
  • Rue de L’Arquet in St Peter's will be a permanent ‘School Street’.
  • This follows a successful 12-month trial aimed at improving safety for students.
  • The scheme closes the road to most vehicles during peak times of 8am-9am and 2.30pm-3.30pm on weekdays.
  • La Houguette is the second school to implement a permanent School Street after St Martin's Primary School.
  • Ongoing trials are taking place at Les Beaucamps and St Sampson’s High School.
Tourism Management Board awards £123,000 for Guernsey events in 2026
  • The Tourism Management Board has provided £123,000 in funding for local events.
  • A total of 41 applications were submitted, with 18 organisations receiving grants.
  • The funding aims to enhance visitor experiences and boost tourism during shoulder months.
  • Beneficiaries include the Art for Guernsey Street Art Festival and Channel Islands Pride.
  • Board has new leadership.
Guernsey students to explore world-leading AI insights in 2026 Digital Innovators Programme
  • The Digital Innovators Programme returns for 2026, aimed at local post-16 students.
  • Students will learn from academics and industry experts through live lectures and practical events.
  • Initial activity includes the AI Explorer Virtual Learning Course starting on 4th February.
  • Participation is fully funded by programme sponsors, 1st Central.
  • Open to all backgrounds, the course is designed to be accessible to students without prior technical experience.
