We are exploring why action is needed and what the solutions could be as part of a collective call for change to help ensure the future success of the island.

For Episode 2 we were joined by The Guernsey Institute College Principal Louise Misselke and Sixth Form Centre Principal Kieran James for a wide ranging discussion about skills, meeting the needs of learners and employers, the impact of AI, as well why we need to work collectively to make sure young people are prepared for the future.

Higher maximum penalties proposed for benefit-related fraud offences

  • Proposed changes include allowing all benefit-related fraud offences to be heard in either the Magistrate’s Court or the Royal Court.
  • The maximum penalty for benefit-related fraud offences could increase to seven years’ imprisonment.
  • The intention is to enhance deterrence and ensure penalties reflect the seriousness of the offences.
