Guernsey's newest sports and social hub is taking shape at Victoria Avenue, with The Rockhouse set to combine high-octane social sports with boutique wellness offerings in what developers describe as the island's first purpose-built Social Sports and Wellness District.

The multimillion-pound facility consists of two distinct spaces: 'The Club', which will house social sports including pickleball, golf simulators, clay pigeon simulators and augmented darts; and 'The Studios', anchored by Guernsey Pilates' reformer studio and infrared mat sanctuary.

Both spaces will operate on a membership basis. Monthly membership for the social sports club starts from £15, while mat and reformer Pilates classes are priced from £14 to £35. Waiting lists for both facilities are now open.

The wellness studio is scheduled to open in 50 days' time, with owners and developers Neil and Faye Lomax excited about the project's progress.

"We're bringing bespoke spaces and state-of-the art experiences to Guernsey. Part of our vision for the site is to encourage those who already visit Victoria Avenue to use it as a true 'District'. By creating a destination where friends and families can spend a whole morning, afternoon or evening together, we can better manage traffic flow and reduce the peak-time congestion often associated with single-activity trips," the developers said.

Those groups who had been using the site and were threatened with eviction in January were given an extra three months after the sale, which ends in days.

A fundraising-matching scheme from The Rockhouse has raised £8,000 for Ace Cheerleaders to secure professional-grade stunt mats for their new home at the Guernsey Badminton Club.

Neil Lomax said: "From the outset, we wanted to support the community groups who had been let down by the forfeiture of the previous master lease at the site. It was important to us to step in and find ways to help those affected. Working with these clubs has shown us how much they are valued by their members, and we want The Rockhouse to play a positive role in Guernsey sport well beyond the facility."

This week saw the signing of a partnership with Guernsey Racquet Club to offer dedicated pickleball facilities to its members.

Richard Vincent of Guernsey Racquet Club said: "We are incredibly excited to be in partnership with The Rockhouse and be able to offer our members the benefits of being part of one of the first strategic alliances in this space on the island.

"This facility will not only offer our members an upgrade in terms of their pickleball experience due to it being a purpose-built facility, but also an opportunity of enjoying the extended range of social sports available on a preferential basis.

"This move allows us to focus on our core offering and commitment to making the Guernsey Racquet Club one of the best venues in the Channel Islands for Padel and Tennis while still looking out for our member community."

Anytime Fitness will continue operating as part of the facility, with director Connor Thorne welcoming the development plans.

"We are delighted by the plans to further develop our existing location on Victoria Avenue. Being part of a district that offers high-quality sports and social facilities aligns closely with Anytime Fitness's mission to support healthy habits while fostering a strong, connected community. We look forward to working closely with our new neighbours to create shared benefits for visitors, which may include the potential for a combined membership offering," Thorne said.

Work on The Club is scheduled for completion by August.
