Guernsey charity Grow has announced the launch of ‘Grow Green Miles’, an annual fundraising initiative designed to promote health, community, and inclusion.
Starting on 1 May, participants are encouraged to lace up their walking shoes and commit to walking at least one mile each day throughout the month.
Roscoe Cloarec, Grow’s Training and Development Manager, said: “It’s a simple, enjoyable way to keep fit, connect with others, and support a cause that truly matters.”
The charity, which focuses on training adults with learning disabilities or difficulties, hopes to engage individuals, families, local businesses, and community groups in this effort.

In support of the initiative, James Falla, editor of the Guernsey Press, remarked, “We’re proud to support Grow Green Miles and help share stories from across the island as people come together for such a positive community initiative. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate wellbeing, local connection, and the important work Grow does.”
Participants will have the opportunity to explore various routes around the island, from scenic coastal paths to quieter lanes.
The initiative will kick off with a group walk from Grow, followed by a celebratory BBQ for participants. The month will conclude on May 31 with a final walk and a summer craft market at Grow, allowing for reflection and celebration of the achievements made throughout the month.
The initiative plays a significant role in bolstering the charity's mission. Grow aims to support adults with learning disabilities by fostering independence and life skills through meaningful activities.
Committee member Sadie Bewey from Friends of Grow (FrOGs) highlighted the benefits of the initiative, stating, “May is the perfect month to get outdoors.
"Why not invite a work colleague to walk your Grow Green Mile together - perhaps discuss ideas, talk business, or simply enjoy a coffee along the way? It’s a great opportunity for corporate teams to give something back to the island.”
Grow Green Miles also includes the participation of ambassadors Jo Hollyer-Hill and Warren Mauger.
Jo said: “Last year, as a personal challenge, I ran every road, track, and path on the island and was amazed by what I discovered along the way. Grow Green Miles is a great idea that strengthens wellbeing and community.”*
Warren added, “Even a short walk helps us feel better physically and mentally, and I’m looking forward to seeing the stories and photos people share.”
To engage participants further, walkers can take photos of interesting sights they encounter during their walks, with the intention to create a visual catalogue of Guernsey’s hidden gems.
Entry fees for the event are set at £15 for adults, £5 for children, and £30 for families of five. Corporate teams can register for £150 for ten participants. For more information and registration, interested parties can visit https://grow.gg/grow-news/grow-green-miles/.
In total, Grow requires approximately £800,000 annually to operate, relying on grants, trading income, and fundraising efforts.
