Housing is seeking to appoint a Housing Development Manager to oversee the construction of new States homes for the first time in more than two decades.
The role has been created to lead the building of new States housing through the Affordable Housing Development Programme, which will supplement schemes being delivered by Guernsey Housing Association.
The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the Committee's Outline Housing Delivery Plan, which aims to build or commence construction on at least 250 affordable homes by the end of the current political term.
These homes are expected to be delivered through various methods, including projects led by Guernsey Housing Association, developing States-owned land, and working in partnership with developers and contractors on affordable housing allocations identified through the Island Development Plan Review.
The Housing Development Manager will help prioritise which sites to develop, assess viability, and engage with landowners and prospective development partners. The role also requires the ability to scrutinise development plans and negotiate with developers to ensure the States delivers value for money.
Deputy Steve Williams, President of the Housing Committee, said: "Given that the States hasn't been in the business of building homes for over 20 years, we don't have someone available with the specific skills and experience needed for this vital role. As supplying more homes is a top priority, we need to put our money where our mouth is and throw everything behind it."
