St Peter Port is set to welcome the festive season with the Christmas lights switch-on event on Saturday, 29 November.

The celebrations will commence with a Christmas Parade departing from the Model Yacht Pond at 3.30pm, progressing to the Market Square where the official switch-on will occur at 5pm.

This year, a 25-foot Christmas Tree sponsored by Sure has arrived on the island and preparations are underway for its installation.

Jonathan Creasey, Chair of the St Peter Port Christmas Lights Committee, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event. He stated that the team is keen to see their plans manifest into an enjoyable experience for attendees.

He noted, "Work has been taking place throughout the year and the infrastructure for Guernsey's Christmas lights have undergone essential maintenance and improvements to ensure they are ready for Christmas 2025."

He added: “The switch-on day is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate.

"The success of the lights depends on public support and collaboration and the Committee would like to thank all of the sponsors for helping light up St Peter Port. The magic simply wouldn’t happen without them."

The sponsors contributing to this year’s festivities include Sure, Butterfield, Vets for Pets, Kirkwood Property, Walter Property, Rihoys, AFM, Creaseys, and M&S. Acknowledgement is also given to Ferry Speed, St Peter Port Constables, States of Guernsey, and Guernsey Post for their support.

The newly formed Committee has aimed to enhance the overall festive experience by coordinating various activities, including the Christmas Parade, the Christmas lights switch-on, and St Peter Port late-night shopping evenings every Thursday throughout December.

Additionally, this year, there are provisions for local buskers to entertain shoppers in the town during the Saturdays leading up to Christmas, with slots still available for those interested in performing.
