The popular "Sport in the Library" event is set to return for a third year on Saturday, 22nd November, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Guille-Allès Library.
This joint initiative, organised by the library and the Sports Commission, will transform the library’s top floor into a vibrant sporting space.
Nicky Will from the Guernsey Sports Commission said: “This will be the third year that sport takes over the top floor of the library and we love to think outside the box about what activities we can include.”
The initiative aims to combat the common restriction of outdoor activities during November by providing fun indoor sporting activities tailored for participants of all ages and abilities.
Jackie Burgess, the Community and Wellbeing Lead for Guille-Allès, said: “Supporting health and wellbeing is a key part of the Library’s mission, and we hope the event will highlight that sport is accessible to all and can be played anywhere, any time.”
A dedicated area will encourage both children and adults to explore the sports books available.
The event will take place in several rooms on the library's upper floor, including the Hayward Room and gallery.
Among the planned activities, attendees will find a putting game in the Hayward Room, featuring obstacles made from bookshelves and equipment.
Participants will receive scorecards to track their progress.
Additionally, Guernsey Volleyball will showcase an exciting seated version of volleyball designed to be accessible to everyone, while Guernsey Boxing returns after supporting the event in previous years.
Mini table tennis tables will also be created from library tables to ensure everyone can partake in the fun.
Entry to "Sport in the Library" is free, and attendees are encouraged to join in the sporting activities while taking advantage of the reading area.
