Education, Sport & Culture has confirmed the selection of three new Designate Chairs to lead Education Governance Boards across the Bailiwick.
The newly appointed Chairs are:
- Stuart Jehan, designated for the South & West Schools Cluster, which includes Castel, Forest, La Houguette, and St Martin’s Primary Schools. Jehan possesses extensive corporate governance experience from previous roles in the private sector and has also been appointed to the board of Citizens Advice Guernsey and the PTA at La Houguette Primary School since his return to Guernsey this year.
- Andrew Ogier, appointed for the North Primary Schools Cluster, consisting of Hautes Capelles, La Mare de Carteret, and Vale Primary Schools. Ogier brings significant leadership and governance experience from the private sector, along with strategic oversight skills. He will transition from his current role as a community representative on the Hautes Capelles Primary School Interim Governance Board.
- Robert Sillars, selected for the Secondary School Partnership Cluster, which includes Les Beaucamps High School, Les Varendes High School, St Sampson’s High School, and the Sixth Form Centre. Sillars has notable leadership experience in secondary education from his previous role as Deputy and Education Minister. His background also includes extensive board-level experience, notably as Chair of the Friends of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
These appointments join the previously announced Chairs: Jon Buckland for the Town Primary Cluster, Ian Carter for St Anne’s School Board, Elizabeth Dene for the Voluntary Schools Cluster, Yvonne Hodder for the Specialist Schools Cluster, and Anna Rivers for The Guernsey Institute (TGI) Board.
Chairs of Education Governance Boards play a role in supporting, holding accountable, and striving for ambition in education for all learners.
They also serve on interview panels for principals and headteachers, act as spokespersons for the boards, and lead their governor groups in supporting and challenging educational leaders.
Education President Deputy Paul Montague said: “We’re delighted to welcome three new Chairs to the Education Governance Boards.
"Their extensive experience and commitment to education will further strengthen our system across the Bailiwick. With these appointments, every Chair position across our Boards is now filled.
"Together, the eight Chairs bring remarkable expertise and passion, driving our shared goal of giving every learner the best possible opportunity to thrive.”
