Parents and carers in Guernsey and Alderney can now register their children for primary school places starting in September 2027.

The registration deadline is 3pm on Friday 23rd October 2026\. Applications received after this date will be given lower priority if spaces at schools are limited.

All children who reach the age of five before 1st September in any year are required to attend school or receive alternative education provision from the beginning of the next academic term, unless they are exempt under the law. Children who turn four on or before 31st August may also start school from the beginning of the academic year if spaces are available.

Children who are baptised Catholic may be registered at one of the two voluntary Catholic primary schools: Notre Dame du Rosaire Catholic Primary School or St Mary & St Michael Catholic Primary School.

Application forms for each primary school, including voluntary schools, are available from gov.gg/schooladmissions and from the schools themselves. Parents and carers who are unsure of their catchment area can visit gov.gg/catchmentareas to identify which area they live in based on their postcode.

Completed application forms for children seeking places in Reception should be returned to the relevant catchment or voluntary school. For those registering for Year 1, completed application forms and supporting documentation should be sent directly to the School Admissions Team at Footes Lane House, Footes Lane, St Andrew GY6 8TB.

Along with application forms, parents and carers must provide a photocopied proof of address, such as a recent utility bill or signed purchase or lease agreement; a copy of the child's birth certificate; photographic proof of the parent or carer's identity, such as a driving licence or passport; and for voluntary schools only, a Catholic baptismal certificate.

Parents and carers can make an application for their child to attend a school that is not their catchment school. However, they must still apply to their catchment school in addition to sending an Out of Catchment Area Placement School (OCAPS) request form to the School Admissions Team. Further information on how to make an out of catchment request is available at gov.gg/schooladmissions.

Year group sizes can influence the resources allocated to each primary school, making it important that children are registered by 23rd October 2026\. Parents and carers are expected to be informed of their child's allocated primary school by the end of the Spring Term.
