The Development & Planning Authority has announced an increase in planning and building control application fees, which will take effect on June 30.

It says the decision to hike fees by 17% comes as a response to ongoing inflation and aims to ensure that the fees accurately reflect the cost of the services provided.

Last year, £1.6m was raised principally from planning and building control fees.

The bill to apply to build a house will go up to £855, a small extension to £185.

Fee increases last occurred in January 2020 and September 2021.

The extra money charged is designed to support the Planning Service’s efforts to maintain and enhance efficiency in service delivery.

This includes exploring the potential advantages of incorporating Artificial Intelligence and other technologies into its operations.
