New visitor pontoons in Victoria Marina are welcoming their first arrivals of the season following a six-week installation programme.

The new pontoon system and supporting infrastructure have been installed in the north east corner of Victoria Marina as part of Guernsey Ports' ongoing investment in marina infrastructure.

Guernsey Ports worked with pontoon supplier Walcon Marine on the installation of the new pontoon system, and local firm Guernsey Metals on the associated steelworks, including the replacement of the wall guides that support the pontoons.

The 80-metre run of pontoons feature upgraded utilities including power, walkway lighting and water supply. It is located close to the marina entrance, making it suitable for visiting boats with deeper drafts, which are in high demand.

Head of Port Operations Kieran Higgs said the works form part of a rolling programme of pontoon replacement, designed to modernise ageing facilities. On average, around £1 million has been invested annually into improving marina infrastructure since 2023.

"These pontoons were a priority for replacement having reached the end of their design life," said Mr Higgs. "The new pontoon system provides safe, secure berthing and modern facilities that will serve boat owners for decades to come."

Mr Higgs added that full replacement is more cost effective than continued maintenance due to the advanced age and condition of the facilities being replaced.

The Victoria Marina work is part of a £300,000 investment that includes further pontoon replacement works in the Albert Marina, where installation works are underway.
