A hospital corridor at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital has been transformed into a free art gallery space as part of a new partnership between Guernsey Museums and the Health and Social Care Arts and Health Programme.

The Corridor Gallery showcases high-quality reproductions from Guernsey Museum's art collection in a rotating exhibition programme designed to support patient, visitor and staff wellbeing.

Located on Level 2 on the link corridor near the Day Patient Unit, the gallery operates 24 hours a day with free entry. The space will feature changing exhibitions throughout the year, with the inaugural display titled Blue Spaces.

The first exhibition explores the connection between water environments and wellbeing, featuring artworks that capture blue-toned landscapes in styles ranging from abstract to impressionistic. The display highlights how visual encounters with such imagery can evoke positive emotions, reduce stress and support mental wellbeing.

Lottie Barnes, Head of Creative Health at Health and Social Care, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Guernsey Museums for the new Corridor Gallery. Partnerships between hospitals and museums are becoming increasingly common, as the positive role art can play in health and wellbeing is more widely recognised. By creating welcoming and uplifting spaces for patients, staff and visitors, these collaborations also help make culture more accessible to the wider community. At the heart of our Arts and Health programme is a commitment to working with our community and its cultural assets to build a flourishing programme that supports health and wellbeing."

Matt Harvey, Senior Curator at Guernsey Museums & Galleries, said: "Guernsey Museums is thrilled to be able to collaborate with the HSC Arts and Health Programme. Being able to share some of the Museum's art collection with the patients, visitors and staff of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital throughout the year is a wonderful thing to be able to do. I hope that the images in the Corridor Gallery can help, even in a small way, to provide some enjoyment or moments of calm."

To complement the hospital gallery initiative, Guernsey Museums will present a related exhibition entitled Lost in Nature at Guernsey Museum at Candie from 25 April 2026. The exhibition encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the natural world through art, exploring how artistic expressions of natural environments can enhance emotional and mental wellbeing.

The Lost in Nature exhibition reflects on how the partnership between Guernsey Museums and the HSC Arts and Health Programme has strengthened their shared goal of promoting wellbeing through access to art. It offers visitors the opportunity to engage more deeply with nature-inspired artworks from the collection within a dedicated museum setting.
