A new committee has been established to rejuvenate the St Peter Port Christmas lights project for the upcoming festive season.

Comprised of local business owners, community leaders, and volunteers, the St Peter Port Christmas Lights Committee aims to create a more vibrant and community-focused display in the island's capital.

The committee is led by Chairman Jonathan Creasey, Managing Director of Creaseys, alongside members including Steve Le Poidevin, owner of Balthazar; Victoria Taylor-Beard, Director of the Guernsey Retail Group; Constables Diane Mitchell and Ken Acott; Sonia Taylor, Director at Bailiwick Estates; and Zoe Gosling, Lead Marketing Officer for the States of Guernsey.

They are supported by Wayne Bulpitt, representative of the Association of Guernsey Charities.

“We’re thrilled to be taking on this iconic part of Guernsey’s Christmas tradition. Our team is full of energy and ideas, and we’re working hard behind the scenes to brighten up St Peter Port this year,” said Creasey.

Plans include restoring and repairing existing lighting, enhancing decorations in key areas, and preparing for the annual switch-on event on 30 November.

The committee is aware of the importance of public support for the initiative's success.

Fundraising campaigns will commence shortly, with a door drop planned for later this year. The funds raised will be vital for the project's sustainability. In a new approach, a QR code will be introduced to simplify donations, alongside its inclusion in other promotional materials.

“Every little helps,” stated Creasey, emphasising the widespread benefits of the lights for the community.

Further announcements regarding the project will follow in the coming weeks. The committee is also looking for a volunteer administrator to assist with operations. Those interested can find more details at christmaslights.gg.

Additionally, various sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses, including sponsorship of the Christmas Tree. For further information or to promote a related fundraising event, contact Steve Le Poidevin at christmaslights.gg@outlook.com.
