Le Murier School has received positive results following an Ofsted inspection, earning an 'Excellent' rating in both 'Personal development and welfare' and 'Sixth Form provision,' while receiving 'Good' ratings in all other categories.
The report published today reflects the school’s commitment to placing pupils at the centre of its decision-making process, specifically addressing additional learning needs effectively.
The Ofsted inspectors found that the school offers a highly targeted approach to personal development, resulting in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where students feel safe and motivated to learn. They noted the emphasis on careers and outdoor education, which fosters confidence, independence, and teamwork among pupils. The positive reinforcement from staff supports the physical and mental health of students, contributing to a respectful learning environment where pupils learn to manage their feelings and interactions.
Leaders commendably promote risk-taking in learning, allowing students to achieve well and represent the school in various competitions. The enthusiasm displayed by Year 11 and Sixth Form students regarding their future prospects was also highlighted. The report notes the highly specialised and personalised approach to Sixth Form provision, which effectively prepares students for appropriate post-16 destinations with exceptional support.
The Ofsted inspection recognised that an ambitious curriculum has led to an increase in staff expectations and academic success, as seen by most pupils achieving recognised qualifications in 2024. The school's Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) programme was also praised for preparing pupils for life beyond school. It focuses on essential life skills, emotional resilience, and online safety, which together foster personal growth alongside academic achievement.
Leadership was recognised for their understanding of the school's strengths and weaknesses and their dedication to regularly reviewing progress. The inspectors praised the improving attendance rates, facilitated by bespoke timetables that support pupils reintegrating into full-time education.
Moving ahead, the school plans to provide further support for staff development in areas where subject leadership is being established to ensure effective curriculum delivery across different pathways.
Lee Collier, Headteacher at Le Murier, said: “We are delighted with the outcome of this Ofsted inspection. To be recognised as Excellent in both our personal development and Sixth Form provision is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the incredible efforts of our students and the investment of our parents and carers.”
Nick Hynes, Director of Education, added, “This is a fantastic achievement for Lee, her staff and the Le Murier community, and a clear endorsement of the school's vision and values in action.”
