Key population and economic data in Guernsey still not available with no firm date for when it will be
- A calendar of national statistics publication dates for 2026 has been confirmed.
- IT infrastructure challenges within the Revenue Service continue to mean key data is not available
- Certain reports - including on employment, population and economic growth - will not appear in 2026 until this is resolved.
- The 2025 Facts and Figures booklet will be printed and distributed soon, with last year’s data serving as the most recent information available in some cases.
Data needed to compile up-to-date reports on Guernsey’s economy and population is still not available.
The calendar detailing national statistics publication dates for 2026 has been made available on the government website, gov.gg/data, but contains some major omissions.
Recently Boley Smillie, Chief Executive & Head of the Public Service, announced a wide-ranging review of IT infrastructure within the Revenue Service after a major capital programme failed to deliver.
This failure has meant that the data necessary to produce several national statistics is currently unavailable to the Data and Analysis Service.
As a consequence, several key reports will not be published this year and have now not been included in the calendar for 2026. The publications affected are:
- Annual Electronic Census Report (March 2024)
- Quarterly Population, Employment and Earnings Bulletin (June 2024)
- Quarterly Population, Employment and Earnings Bulletin (September 2024)
- Annual Gross Value Added and Gross Domestic Product Bulletin (2024)
- Quarterly Population, Employment and Earnings Bulletin (December 2024)
- Annual Household Income Report (2023)
- Annual Indicators of Poverty Report (2024)
The 2025 Facts and Figures booklet will be printed and distributed shortly.
These ongoing delays in raw data being provided will mean that, in several areas, last year’s information will be the most recent available.
