At approximately 05:00 on Monday, 17 November 2025, one of the lifeboats on MV Islander experienced a mechanical failure during a routine training exercise in St Peter Port Harbour.
Consequently, the lifeboat grounded on the shingle beach at Cow Bay, beneath Castle Cornet.
The incident did not result in any injuries and no pollution was reported.
MV Islander deployed one of her fast rescue boats in an attempt to recover the grounded lifeboat; however, that was unsuccessful.
Subsequently, the harbour workboat Sarnia was assigned to assist and successfully refloated the lifeboat around 06:30. The lifeboat was then returned safely to the vessel.
Due to the temporary loss of lifeboat capability, MV Islander was held alongside in St Peter Port by the Harbour Master.
A mitigation plan was developed collaboratively by the ship’s crew, shore management, the Flag State administration, and the vessel’s classification society.
Islander left around three hours late for Portsmouth and was expected to be back on schedule by Tuesday morning.
Elsewhere, Clipper is currently covering for Voyager for a month while the latter is in dry dock in Cherbourg for a refit and to be repainted in Brittany Ferries’ colours.
