Businesses across the island are being encouraged to swap their boardrooms for outdoor spaces this May through a new charitable initiative that combines exercise with professional meetings.
The 'Grow Green Miles' programme asks participants to pledge to walk a mile a day throughout May, turning routine business meetings into outdoor experiences whilst raising funds for local charity Grow.
OSA Recruitment has become the first company to sign up to the initiative, with the team already embracing the concept of conducting meetings whilst walking outdoors.
"May is such a beautiful month, and this initiative gives us a great reason to get outside and enjoy it while still keeping on top of business agendas," said Sophie Gregson, Managing Director of OSA Recruitment. "Walking and talking brings a whole new dimension to meetings, it's productive, uplifting, and good for everyone involved."
The initiative encourages office-based professionals to step away from their desks and utilise the island's natural environment, whether coastal paths, parks, or quiet lanes. Organisers say the programme promotes regular exercise, fresh air, and mindful movement, all of which support both physical and mental wellbeing.
Participants can conduct their walking meetings with colleagues, using the opportunity to discuss business ideas or simply enjoy a moment of calm whilst contributing to fundraising efforts for Grow.
"May is the perfect time to get outdoors," Ms Gregson added. "Why not invite a colleague to walk your Grow Green Mile with you? It's a great opportunity to discuss ideas, talk business, or simply enjoy a moment of calm. Corporate teams can also use this as a chance to give something back to the island."
The participation structure has been designed to be inclusive and accessible, with registration fees of £15 per adult, £5 per child, £30 for a family of five, and £150 for corporate teams of up to ten people.
Grow's General Manager Mandy Mackelworth highlighted the mental and physical benefits of the initiative. "Even a short walk can have a big impact on how we feel physically and mentally," she said. "We're really looking forward to seeing the stories, photos, and creativity that participants share throughout the month."
