The Tourism Management Board, in partnership with VisitGuernsey, has introduced the Island Ambassador Training Scheme to improve the skills and knowledge of local tourism professionals.
Designed for those in visitor-facing roles, this initiative aims to enhance customer service and provide a consistent, high-quality experience for visitors.
The scheme offers training modules that businesses can incorporate into their current training efforts
Industry groups are being encouraged to facilitate sessions to help independent traders to participate.
VisitGuernsey will provide both online and in-person training sessions. These are designed to be interactive, promoting discussion among participants and fostering industry connections.
Upon successful completion of the programme, participants can collect Ambassador badges from the Visitor Information Centre. Additionally, businesses will have access to a digital version of the badge for use in their own marketing and communications.
Charlie Walker, co-chair of the Tourism Management Board, stated, “We want visitors to have the best experience possible, from the moment they arrive. Our aim is to improve skills and Island knowledge across the sector and promote an excellent visitor journey. Every touch point should be a positive one, encouraging return trips and recommending the islands to friends and family. Training new Guernsey Ambassadors should benefit our whole industry.”
Those interested can sign up by emailing cara-leah.hilton-smith@gov.gg, indicating their preference for online or in-person training.
