A lively theatre production titled Into the Renoir will debut this week.
It commemorates the time French Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir spent on the island in 1883.
Art for Guernsey started its Renoir journey in 2019, initially establishing the Renoir Walk to honour the artist's connection to the island.
The initiative continued with exhibitions that showcased Renoir's influence in Guernsey and his artistic evolution during his stay.
"Into the Renoir" features a group of Year 6 pupils visiting the Art for Guernsey Renoir exhibition to explore the artist's work and his history.
When two curious students, Paulette and Shari, accidentally alter the course of time, they are transported to 4 September 1883, just as Renoir arrives in Guernsey experiencing a creative struggle.
It becomes their mission to assist him in overcoming this block, introducing him to iconic local sights, including the scenic Moulin Huet.
The production is said to be infused with humour and educational elements, having been developed entirely by the students and acting as a part of their performing arts training.
The Guernsey Institute, Art for Guernsey, and Investec are offering complimentary access for primary school children.
For the broader community, a special performance of "Into the Renoir" will take place on Thursday, 12 February at 7pm.
Tickets are now available, priced at £10.
David Ummels, Founder and Chairman of Art for Guernsey, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “One of our key ethos of our charity is to support, inspire and stimulate the creativity of local youth.
"We do this in many different ways... You can expect a magnificent performance from the students of the Guernsey Institute for “In the Renoir”. Surely an event not to be missed for your cultural agenda in February.”
Rhys Ashcroft, Director and Lecturer in Performing Arts, said: “This collaboration between Art for Guernsey and TGI's Performing Arts Department has been a creative triumph, blending Renoir's impressionist genius with live performance, in the style of Children’s Theatre... It's a new, vibrant way to make his famous work accessible and enjoyable for all."
