The passenger gangway at the Inter-Island Quay has been temporarily removed to undergo essential maintenance and repairs following damage from winter storms.

The 36-metre gangway was lifted out by crane this morning and separated into its three 12-metre sections to allow Technical Services staff to carry out welding repairs to the aluminium frame.

During the maintenance period, which is expected to take around a week, passengers will access the Inter-Island Quay via steps. Ferry operators will manage passenger access to and from the quay during this time.

Assistant Harbour Master Simon Granger explained the necessity of the work: "These repairs are required to address the damage caused by winter storms and ongoing wear and tear. Carrying out this work is essential to ensure the gangway remains safe and reliable, and we would like to thank passengers and quay users for their understanding and cooperation while this maintenance is completed."

The maintenance work represents a proactive approach to infrastructure upkeep, addressing both storm damage and general deterioration from regular use to maintain safety standards for ferry passengers.
