  • Guernsey will transition to an online passport application system in 2027.
  • The initiative is part of a UK-wide digitisation project.
  • Collaboration will occur with His Majesty’s Passport Office and counterparts in Jersey, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar.
  • Customer research will be conducted.
  • More information on the system will be shared next year.

Guernsey's passport application process is set to undergo a major transformation with the introduction of an online application system in 2027.

This move is part of a broader UK-wide digitisation initiative aimed at modernising government services.

The Guernsey Border Agency's Immigration & Nationality Team is working in conjunction with His Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) on this project.

The implementation of the online passport system will enhance efficiency, moving away from the current paper-based application method that requires islanders to fill out physical forms.

You can already apply for passports online in Jersey and the UK.

In a bid to incorporate community feedback into the development process, the HMPO will conduct customer research. This may involve reaching out to local residents for their insights and opinions about the proposed online application system.

The UK Home Office is nearing the end of a 10-year £1bn project to digitise its passport system. The project started with a £100m. price tag.

More details regarding the specification and functionality of the online application platform will be made available during 2026.
