Guernsey Museum at Candie will host a family-friendly Halloween celebration across 30th and 31st October, featuring historically inspired activities themed around witchcraft, wizardry, magic and mystery.

The two-day event, dubbed Freaky Friday and Spooky Saturday, offers activities for all ages, from toddlers to adults. Visitors can participate in wand weaving with the Wise Woman Willow and slime making with the Potion Masters.

The History of Magical Creatures team will teach children about magical creatures featured in Bailiwick folklore. A Dragon Egg Garden Trail will give participants the chance to win their own baby dragon.

On Spooky Saturday, visitors will meet Bill, described as a special golden guest, and learn about the role goats play in local spooky stories.

Younger visitors can attend a Witching Hour screening at 10:30am featuring Room on the Broom, including a family reading of the modern classic in Guernesiais. Children are encouraged to dress up as witches and wizards and bring their wands and favourite Room on the Broom character toys.

Older visitors can explore witchy history with the Museum's Scholar of Witchcraft, who will display real grimoires and explain how witchcraft beliefs have shaped the island.

Young adults and adults can attend the Dark Histories Living History Series, featuring performances and walks exploring darker aspects of local history. The series begins at 11:30am with Guernsey Folklore and concludes with Plants, Poisons & Ghostly Goings On, a horticultural Halloween walk of Candie Gardens led by an Edwardian gardener.

Access and Learning Manager at Guernsey Museums, Miffy Lane, said: "We are so looking forward to welcoming our visitors once again to this magical event. It's one of our favourite times of year, we love to see the museum full of witches, wizards, ghouls and goblins…and don't forget it's free entry to children in full fancy dress - and we especially love a home-made creation. With our current Brick History exhibition also on display, it really is a perfect time for families to come and enjoy all we have to offer."

Standard museum admission applies, though Discovery Pass holders receive free entry. All activities are included in the entry price. Children in full fancy dress receive free entry.

The full timetable and event map are available on the Guernsey Museums website. Blue badge parking can be arranged by calling 226518 in advance.
