Guernsey Arts has launched a new initiative combining guided tours with outdoor art workshops, designed to engage both locals and visitors with the island's artistic heritage.

The programme, titled "Art en Plein Air", has been developed in partnership with accredited tour guide Dave Bartram and will take participants on a journey through St Peter Port's streets before concluding with a hands-on painting workshop in Candie Gardens.

The experience begins with a guided walk through the town, exploring locations and viewpoints that have inspired generations of artists. Participants will discover landscapes, architecture and scenes that have featured in notable works of local art, whilst learning about paintings created at these sites.

The tour will highlight locations connected to prominent artists including Brenda Munson and J.M.W. Turner, as well as contemporary local artists currently working on the island.

Upon reaching Candie Gardens, participants will be offered light refreshments featuring traditional Guernsey gâche before taking part in a relaxing workshop led by local artist and Guernsey Arts team member Louise Le Pelley.

The workshop will focus on the Candie Garden Bandstand, with participants drawing inspiration from the surrounding gardens and historic buildings to create their own artwork. All materials will be supplied, and the session has been designed to be accessible for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced artists.

Rebecca Booth, CEO of Guernsey Arts, said: "We are delighted to be working together with Dave to create a new arts experience which combines art, culture and engaging history whilst raising funds for Guernsey Arts. This is a great opportunity to experience the vibrancy of St Peter Port from a different perspective, whilst taking time to slow down and connect with the art of creating itself."

Dave Bartram, the accredited tour guide leading the walks, said: "As an accredited tour guide in Guernsey I was keen to promote a different area of St Peter Port and see locations through the eyes of our local and visiting artists whose work I am keen to support. I hope people enjoy this different tour and embrace the opportunity to have a go at painting themselves."

Louise Le Pelley said: "The Guernsey Arts team are always looking for new ways to celebrate the arts. Wearing my Guernsey Pubs beret as well as my Guernsey Arts hat, I am looking forward to leading this atelier, which will be the first of many more garden workshops to be led by other local artists in future. Painting en plein air can be a bit intimidating at first, but it's a really relaxing and joyful experience. I can't wait to join our workshop attendees in these beautiful gardens to share a few tips, tricks and stories behind the creative process."

The initiative aims to raise funds for Guernsey Arts whilst offering participants a new way to engage with the island's creative heritage and natural beauty.
