GradRoutes Guernsey, a new initiative from The Guernsey Institute, is set to host its inaugural event designed to reconnect off-island students, graduates, and young people with career opportunities available in Guernsey.
The 'Homegrown Futures' event will be held on 22 December from 16:45 to 18:45 at the Chamber Offices in the Market Buildings.
This event aims to challenge common misconceptions about the job market in Guernsey.
It will showcase the wide array of opportunities, particularly highlighting that within the finance sector, 50% of available roles are non-financial.
Attendees will be invited to explore various thriving sectors across the island through a series of concise ‘elevator pitches’ by industry representatives.
Speakers confirmed to present include Dan Gallienne from the creative sector, Barnaby Molloy representing finance, Katie Inder from digital, Henry Simpson from the legal field, and Michelle Mahy from the public sector, among others.
Each speaker will provide insights into opportunities within their fields, discuss emerging roles, and shed light on sector growth.
Michelle Morley, Project Lead for GradRoutes Guernsey, said, “Deliberately scheduled for when many current students and off-island graduates are returning to the island for the holidays, this event is designed to showcase just how much opportunity exists across a wide range of industries.
"Whether someone is interested in digital innovation, creative careers, public service, construction or finance, there is a pathway for them here. Our aim is to help young people feel confident that they can build a rewarding future in Guernsey, and to strengthen the connection between emerging talent and the sectors that need them.”
In conjunction with the event, GradRoutes Guernsey has launched a survey targeted at Guernsey students studying off-island and recent graduates, which remains open for participation.
The insights gathered will inform future support and outreach efforts. Those who complete the survey will be entered into a prize draw for a £100 Amazon voucher.
Admission to the 'Homegrown Futures' event is free, and attendees are encouraged to reserve their place.
Complimentary drinks and Chefan burgers will be served.
