G8 encouraged by government's focus and collaboration

A recent meeting of the G8 and the Policy & Resources Committee focused on action plans that emerged during the election period.
Ahead of polling day, the G8 outlined what it saw as priority areas and how they could be addressed.
It expressed satisfaction with the government's willingness to engage, noting that many priorities outlined are already being addressed or are in the pipeline for action.
“With collaborative leadership, efficient decision making and targeted policy action, Guernsey can unlock sustainable economic growth and strengthen its position as a vibrant place to live, work and do business,” it said.
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening communications between committees to foster a more efficient and constructive working culture. This effort is expected to enhance collaboration and ensure that priorities are effectively pursued.
A significant topic of discussion was the urgent need for a final decision on tax reform, anticipated by the end of Quarter 2 next year.
There is a widespread consensus within the G8 that Guernsey faces a structural deficit, necessitating prompt action. The G8 advocates for a diversified tax base to lessen reliance on income tax, promoting a balanced tax system that secures the future of Guernsey.
The meeting was characterised as positive and constructive, with a clear focus on achieving meaningful progress in the short term while maintaining a focus on long-term goals.
The G8, comprises the Chamber of Commerce, Guernsey International Business Association, Hospitality Association, Construction Forum, Institute of Directors, Guernsey Retail Group, Confederation of Guernsey Industry, and the Association of Guernsey Charities.
