- Additional safety improvements will continue throughout the summer.
The diving platform at Ladies Pool has reopened following extensive community efforts.
Initially closed in February due to safety concerns, the platform's reopening follows successful collaborative efforts among residents, businesses, and government bodies.
Significant work has been carried out in recent months to address safety issues. Community members have helped clear a considerable amount of silt and rubble around the platform. Additionally, F Watson & Son Ltd has contributed by mechanically removing bedrock to enhance the depth of the pool to 3.5 metres. The States has confirmed that all requirements set in the prohibition notice have been met, allowing the platform to reopen for public use.
Among the further planned upgrades will be the construction of improved access steps to the diving platform and modifications intended to reduce slipperiness on the diving boards when wet.
Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, Environment & Infrastructure President, said: “This has been a fantastic example of Guernsey’s incredible community spirit, with businesses, government and members of the public pulling together so that the platform can be reopened. As a keen swimmer myself, it’s brilliant that we can now continue to enjoy this feature of our wonderful bathing pools.”
Adrian Sarchet, a member of the working group responsible for the platform's reopening, said: “We should all feel blessed to live in a place where magic like this can happen. The community spoke, government listened, and local business facilitated a solution (largely for free). And now happy children (both large and small) will be leaping off the diving platform once again…into a safer environment, thanks to the work everyone has put in.”
