Derelict building burns at Leale’s Yard

Two young people were arrested on suspicion of arson after a blaze at Leale’s Yard on Thursday evening.

Residents were urged to keep doors and windows closed as the emergency services dealt with the incident.

The fire was reported just after 5pm and was out by 6.30pm.

Police stopped traffic from using the road adjacent to the shops, and were also seen searching the site, at Lowlands Industrial Estate and talking to people at La Hougue du Valle, the lane that passes Cycle World.

Ambulance & Rescue also attended the scene.

"Enquiries are now ongoing and we’d ask that anyone with any information, or who may have seen what happened, to contact officers on 01481 222 222," police said.

Derelict structures still dominate Leale’s Yard, which the States purchased last year for £4.5m. to develop for housing.
