Deputy Le Tocq charged over indecent child images

- Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq has been charged with eight offences.
- He has been remanded in custody after a court appearance.
- Next hearing on 15 September.
- The Policy & Resources Committee seeks to remove him from his committee role.
Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq will be detained in prison until the next court hearing over charges relating to indecent images of children, extreme pornography and misuse of telecommunications.
The 61-year-old made no plea during a Magistrates Court appearance on Friday afternoon.
Because of the serious nature of the charges, the case will eventually be heard by the Royal Court.
He has been charged with eight offences which are alleged to have taken place between 14 June 2023 and 22 July this year.
They include making thousands of images of children, a minimum of 80 of them were classified as the most serious Category A, 150 Category B and at least 1,200 Category C.
Deputy Le Tocq was also charged with using four X social media accounts to send indecent messages and images.
The prosecution applied for Deputy Le Tocq to be remanded in custody, which was not opposed.
The next hearing will be on Monday 15 September.
After being re-elected to the States in June, Deputy Le Tocq won a seat on Policy & Resources and took on the external relations role he had held in the previous States.
A statement from Policy & Resources on Friday said: “Our thoughts are with anyone affected by today’s news that Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq has been charged with a number of offences and remanded in custody following a court appearance.
“In light of these events, it will clearly not be possible for Deputy Le Tocq to carry out any work on, or on behalf of, the Committee.
“Our focus is purely on ensuring P&R has the political capacity of five members to deliver its extensive responsibilities.”
It will now seek to remove Deputy Le Tocq from his seat on the committee by taking a proposition to the States.
