Artists across the Channel Islands have been invited to submit entries for the Fox Open Art Competition 2026, with a deadline of 5pm on Tuesday 8 September.
The annual competition, now in its 44th year and sponsored by JJ Fox International Ltd, is open to residents of both the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey aged 12 and over. Jersey Arts Centre and Guernsey Arts are jointly calling for submissions from artists in both bailiwicks.
This year's judge is Mary Kuper, an artist, illustrator, and printmaker whose work explores themes of language and poetry, people and places. In keeping with tradition, the judge has been chosen from outside the Channel Islands to ensure impartiality. Ms Kuper will also host a workshop for island students later in the year.
Prizes totalling £2,000 will be awarded to Channel Island-based artists who produce the most original work in the judge's opinion. The overall winner will receive £1,000, whilst the Jock Russell Award for artists aged 12 to 18 carries a prize of £500. Five highly commended artists will each receive £100.
Entrants may submit up to two works, with entry fees set at £5 for adults and £1 for students. Entries can be made through an online form or by contacting Guernsey Arts directly for assistance.
Winning and selected artworks will be exhibited at Jersey Arts Centre and The George Crossan Gallery in Guernsey.
Jade Kershaw, Community and Public Realm Officer at Guernsey Arts, said: "Guernsey Arts is always looking to promote inter-island collaboration, and the Fox Art Competition annually brings artists from across all Islands together to showcase some of the best work that the Channel Islands has to offer. We are thrilled to be once again supporting the Fox Art Competition and working with our colleagues at Jersey Arts Centre to host this competition in the George Crossan Gallery and provide support to ensure its continued success."
The competition aims to strengthen artistic connections between the islands whilst providing a platform for emerging and established artists to display their work.
Guernsey Arts is a not-for-profit organisation working to develop the Bailiwick of Guernsey as a vibrant artistic community across all aspects of the arts, from photography and film to live music, theatre, sculpture, visual arts, poetry and literary works.
