  • Guernsey Water will fully integrate the cesspit service by 2026.
  • Customer service, billing, scheduling, and tanker operations will be managed by Guernsey Water.
  • The change aims to enhance reliability and efficiency in the cesspit service.
  • Updates and improvements include a new scheduling system and investment in new tankers.
  • Customers can register for the MyCesspit Portal for better service management.

Guernsey Water has announced plans to transfer its cesspit service fully in-house by 2026, aimed at enhancing reliability, efficiency, and customer experience.

Currently, while Guernsey Water manages customer service and billing for cesspit collections, States Works is responsible for scheduling, tanker operations, and driver management.

Under the new arrangement, all operational aspects will transition to Guernsey Water.

“This is about change behind the scenes that will align customer service more closely with collection scheduling and tanker operations,” stated Andrea Simpson, Business Change Manager at Guernsey Water.

The shift will not alter the volume of wastewater collected or the number of drivers involved in the process.

The most noticeable change for the public will be the drivers' uniforms, which will display the Guernsey Water logo instead of that of States Works.

The cesspit service plays a significant role in Guernsey’s wastewater management, with 36 drivers collecting over 500 million litres of wastewater from 5,500 customers each year for safe disposal into the sewerage network.

The transition follows consultations between Guernsey Water and States Works and builds upon recent enhancements to the service.

Key improvements have been made in recent years:

- A new scheduling system implemented in 2022 allows for real-time data access for drivers.

- In 2022, customer service responsibilities were brought in-house to Guernsey Water, facilitating the combination of water, wastewater, and cesspit billing.

- The MyCesspit Portal was launched in 2024, providing customers with direct access to schedules and account information.

- A £2.8 million investment in 2025 funded 15 new tankers, thereby improving reliability and reducing emergencies.

These initiatives have led to fewer emergency collections and a higher on-time completion rate for scheduled collections.

Customers are encouraged to sign up for the MyCesspit Portal, which enables better schedule management and can lead to reduced costs and availability for others. Registration is complimentary here with additional information available here.
