Guernsey Post has announced that it will cease operating a dedicated mail plane for the transportation of standard mail to the UK by July.

The last outbound flight is scheduled for Friday, 5 July.

Following this date, all standard mail will be transported to the UK using the existing sea freight network.

The decision to shift to sea transport is driven by an increase in supply chain costs that has rendered the ongoing operation of the dedicated export aircraft financially unviable.

Chief Executive Steve Sheridan stated, “Our priority is to provide a reliable, well-managed and financially sustainable postal service for the island. Transitioning standard mail to sea allows for that whilst also protecting essential services for those who depend on them.”

To accommodate the change, Guernsey Post is advising customers to allow an additional 24 hours for their mail to connect with UK deliveries.

The transition will also see the introduction of competitively priced parcel options, made possible through efficiencies gained by moving to sea transport.

Recognising the importance of maintaining a next-day service for urgent items, Guernsey Post is working to secure a daily service using scheduled flights.

In preparation for this operational shift, Guernsey Post is reviewing its working hours to align with the new export schedule.
