About us
The Quarry is on a mission to tell stories that will help connect our community to ensure our island thrives.
We will be an organisation that informs our readers, cutting through the noise and disinformation, opposing those who seek to drive us apart.
You will find no clickbait, no pop-up ads, no spin.
We believe in truly independent, objective local journalism, throwing off the shackles of advertisers and government to report on what really matters.
By using technology wisely we can free up our time to get away from the desk, away from emails, away from churning out government press releases and be out in the community to tell the stories that will make a positive difference.
We are proud of our island and the people who live here. We will act like an informed friend, letting you know who’s up to what, who’s succeeding and who’s struggling and why.
We are primarily funded by our members, so if you value a fearless voice free from the influence of vested interests, please consider joining.
Our membership model and way of working will help us focus on long-term investigations, stories that can drive change, rather than chasing clicks for money.
Too many newsrooms simply want your money - we want your ideas and feedback. Who should we be talking to? Who can offer a fresh, credible perspective? Whose story deserves to be told? How can we improve what we are doing?
We want members to be active participants in The Quarry, co-creation needs to be baked into our culture as a small newsroom for success. Not everyone will agree with everything we decide to cover, but we promise to be be open about why we make the decisions we make.
We are part of worldwide efforts to provide sustainable journalism and make sure decisions that affect us all do not happen in darkness.
To do that, we need you.
